Let’s Stop Terrorism
We’re finally moving in the direction of broadening the definition of terrorism to include all violence against innocent human beings not just that violence perpetrated by people we don’t like.
We need this because America will never establish the moral authority to defeat terrorism and extremism throughout the world as long as she is in denial about the horrors of her own history.
An outraged President Obama did not try to comfort the nation after its latest mass murder—this time at Umpqua Community College in Oregon on Thursday—but instead admonished it for not fighting gun violence. “Our thoughts and prayers are not enough. It does nothing to prevent this carnage from being inflicted somewhere else in America—next week or a couple of months from now,” he said. Obama went further, likening what Americans do to each other with guns to what terrorists do.
Obama asked us to compare gun and terror deaths. Vox said: “We did.”
Now that ought to send the Conservative critics and the right wing nut fringe into a tizzy. They’ve been hard oppressed to acknowledge America’s own propensity for violence. They can’t acknowledge that America’s has ever done any wrong. They want to send immigrants home and they are they late coming immigrants themselves. They want African Americans to let slavery go, but they can’t let the Holocaust, 9-11, or even the Alamo go.
Which is worse? Cutting an innocent man’s head off or castrating, lynching and burning an innocent man and then having a picnic? Nobody could bring this kind of justice but G-d. Nobody could make it so obvious and manifest that there’s a wrong here somewhere that needs to be righted but G-d. Stop demonizing Muslims, stop demonizing Black people and face your own demons. What G-d asks for is our repentance. When we see that coming, guaranteed things will get better.
