The Rise of Extremism in America
November 27, 2015
Let’s just discard Ben Carson for the moment, no pun intended, and just consider that his function in this Republican electoral is to pick up the religious extremists.
Now let’s focus on the candidacy of Donald Trump who has pushed the envelope of racism, bigotry and insensitivity to its outer limits. He has pushed truth and credibility to its limits. 74% of his statements have proven to be false, and yet his base continues to eat it up.
The fact that no one is really focusing on however is that he has no chance whatsoever of becoming President of the United States. Why? Because he could never represent to the world the true dream and the true destiny of this experimental Democracy we call America. Why then do the public, the money behind politics and the media go along with the charade? Why have they anointed him as the leader of the secular extremists? It is because he serves a function and his function is that of the “stalking horse.”
stalk·ing horse, noun
a screen traditionally made in the shape of a horse behind which a hunter can stay concealed when stalking prey.
a false pretext concealing someone’s real intentions.
a political candidate who runs only in order to provoke the election and thus allow a stronger candidate to come forward.

A stalking horse is a figure that tests a concept with someone or mounts a challenge against someone on behalf of an anonymous third party. If the idea proves viable or popular, the anonymous figure can then declare its interest and advance the concept with little risk of failure.”
Everybody acknowledges that he is going to eventually drop out the race in favor of a viable nominee that has a real potential of winning, but in the meantime he will test the public to see exactly how far to the extreme right they are willing to go. Already we see the other Republican candidates taking portions of his rhetoric, drawing it back to acceptable level or pushing it farther. Thus come election time they will have a clear picture of what the public will accept–how extreme they can go and still stay in the so-called mainstream. The one thing that unites them and upon which they all agree, is that President Obama has pushed the limits of liberalism to a left extreme. I disagree with that, except in the area of social equality such as same sex marriage. But even there we have to accept that in this American society we are going to have to find a medium to live in peace with even those practices we find repugnant.
As Muslim we are told to avoid all extremes, to follow a course of moderation. Thus we have to learn to live in the midst of extremists from both sides. But in this Day of Judgment and this Day of the Manifestation of Defects, the only thing worse than living among extremists is having them hid behind clan robes and police badges. At least now we can see them crawling out the woodwork. We can now withdraw of good economic support from them and use it as a tool for them “to get their mind right.”
